N
oise and confusion surround us once again. Seemingly disparate pieces of construction are arising and soon will coalesce into the most significant addition to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital since our opening 46 years ago. New private patient rooms, new outpatient offices, improved access and more are eighteen months away. The Costas Center, completed three years ago, was our first introduction to the Glennon of the 21st Century. Design and function came together to provide an environment in which children with serious illness and their families receive superb medical care in a setting that supports and comforts them.

The architects have partnered with families and staff and, after many months and countless hours, are bringing the next phase of our growth to reality. I am confident that the award-winning, 7,500-square-foot Costas Center will have been just a prelude to our eagerly-awaited, 115,000-square-foot South Wing.

The cycle continues. New physicians with new ideas, new services and new technology are offering increased hope for the children we serve. We continue to make room for each child who seeks our help and to lead the search for means of improving the life of every child. In time we will again need to stretch our physical space to accommodate our success and to create an even better future for children.

We are grateful to the thousands of friends and supporters of Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. You are responsible for the noise and confusion. Children of today and tomorrow thank you, as do we.
