St. Louis Cardinals Home Opener
Homers for Health Game Ball Relay -
2017 Recap Video
Anyone who lives in St. Louis knows that the Cardinals home opener is celebrated each year by thousands of fans filling downtown St. Louis and Busch Stadium in a sea of red! However, not everyone can get tickets to this must see game in St. Louis, we created a tradition to celebrate the hours leading up to game time – the Homer’s for Health Game Ball Relay, this year GBR17! Our 5th annual Game Ball Relay was held on Sunday, April 2 to help us celebrate the Cardinals home opener. The fun began at 3 pm at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital for our kickoff ceremony at the entrance of the hospital. Our grateful patient relay teams carried the official home opener ball on a journey through the streets of St. Louis to Ballpark Village.
From there, cancer survivor Joey Renick and his nephew Thomas Lorenz, who is in his brave battle with cancer, made the final leg into Busch Stadium, circling the warning track with Cardinals legend Bruce Sutter!
Meet our five patients and their families who ran in the relay this year. Below are their heartwarming stories of what the hospital means to them and consider making a gift on their behalf to ensure that ALL children in need of care can receive the healing presence of God through our exceptional health care services.
