St. Louis, MO (Oct. 25, 2011) – “Rally Squirrel” has worked his bushy tail off raising money for the past three weeks with his charity apparel for SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center. Now SSM Cardinal Glennon is proud to announce that Rally is being promoted to the official mascot of the hospital. SSM Cardinal Glennon President Sherlyn Hailstone says the hospital has always wanted an inviting mascot to embody their positive environment and Rally is the obvious choice, no matter what the outcome is of the World Series. “Rally has been such a fun and inspiring figure for the patients and staff at Cardinal Glennon,” Hailstone said. “For the Cardinals, he came and changed the game for the better at a crucial point. That is exactly what we strive to do for our patients—be a game-changer, rallying them toward hope and greater health.” Ever since Rally scampered across home plate during Game 4 of the National League Division Series game on Oct. 5, he has been working tirelessly to help SSM Cardinal Glennon. Between visiting the young patients at the hospital and making his daily appearances to rally the St. Louis Cardinals, Rally was bushed and in need of a complete makeover. Ginger Bay Salon and Spa of Kirkwood has come to Rally’s rescue to help him put his best paw forward during his new time in the limelight. Ginger Bay CEO and Owner Laura Ortmann put the salon’s most pampering professionals on the case to relax and rejuvenate St. Louis’ favorite Rally Squirrel.
“We at Ginger Bay are thrilled to provide Cardinal Glennon’s Rally Squirrel with a makeover in honor of our comeback Cardinals,” Ortmann said. “We took Rally back to his roots, literally! It’s rare that we would color a guest gray, but in honor of his true color, we enhanced Rally’s best assets and gave him a more natural look.” SSM Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation Executive Director Dan Buck estimates the proceeds of Rally’s charity apparel to date at $280,000, including a generous lead gift by Anheuser-Busch InBev. The funds will be used to build a new playground above the Bob Costas Cancer Center. “It’s been incredible to see the impact this furry friend has made in just a few short weeks. We can’t imagine all the great things Rally will do in the years ahead as SSM Cardinal Glennon’s official mascot. We may even take him to a Rams game soon,” Buck said. So whether St. Louis is able to revel in a World Series victory or not, Rally Squirrel will be a permanent member of the Cardinal Glennon family.
