Rally Squirrel announces $470,000 in proceeds from his apparel line benefitting SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center
St. Louis, MO (Nov. 16, 2011) - St. Louis' newest hometown celebrity and SSM Cardinal Glennon Medical Center's mascot, Rally Squirrel announced today that his charity apparel has raised approximately $470,000, thanks in part due to a generous lead gift by Anheuser-Busch.
The T-shirts, hats (complete with squirrel tail) and trading cards produced by Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation were in great demand throughout the St. Louis Cardinals' successful bid for their 11th championship.
More than 30,000 T-shirts have been sold, covering the cost of building a new playground above the Bob Costas Cancer Center.
"We are just nuts about the success of 'Rally's work for our hospital and can't wait for the playground to become a reality," said Dan Buck, executive director of Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation.
Rally said that his plans in Syberg's, Helen Fitzgerald's and select Buffalo Wild Wings sold the items, along with Sportsprint and Schnucks Supermarkets, all generating revenues for the hospital. "The 'Rally' phenomenon captured the passion of St. Louis and Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation was able to leverage the incredible enthusiasm of our hometown fans for a great cause," said Dave Peacock, president, Anheuser-Busch.
On Oct. 10, "Rally" called a press conference to name his charity of choice as SSM Cardinal Glennon. Rally's recent escapades include visiting the hospital's young patients and receiving a makeover at Ginger Bay Salon & Spa on the day he was announced as the hospital's official mascot.In addition, Hillerich & Bradsby has donated 240 Louisville Slugger© commemorative bats to support Rally's charity efforts. "We are thrilled to be able to contribute to spreading joy to the kids at SSM Cardinal Glennon," Rick Redman, vice president of corporate communications said. The bats will be presented to patients at SSM Cardinal Glennon.
