LOUIS, MO (February 17, 2016) – SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Foundation and the Glennon Guild announced today that the 2016 Glennon Card shopping days will be held October 21 through October 30. Throughout this 10-day shopping period, shoppers who purchase a Glennon Card will receive a generous 20 percent discount at more than 300 stores, restaurants and salons. All card purchases benefit the patients at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital.

During the 2015 program, 3,200 Glennon Cards were purchased, raising $160,000 to benefitthe hospital. Additional sponsor contributions resulted in a total of $187,615 raised.

“Our patients, staff and physicians are blessed beyond belief to have such a supportive Guild,” said Damon Harbison, interim president and chief operating officer at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. “The funds from the 2015 Glennon Card efforts have allowed us to purchase a new GE Logiq E9 ultrasound machine that is far superior to that of our more outdated ultrasound machines. The new technology allows for better detection and characterization of lesions as well as superior visualization of normal anatomical structures. This improved image quality helps in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment planning of patients. The better image quality may also reduce the need for evaluating a patient using a radiation-based imaging technology, such as CT. On behalf of everyone at Cardinal Glennon, we thank them for their continued support.”

The Glennon Guild, a ladies auxiliary made up of 300 volunteers, has been spearheading the Glennon Card program since 2011. In just five years, more than $785,000 has been raised to meet the needs of the hospital.

Funds raised from the 2016 Glennon Card program will benefit the fourth floor Inpatient Cancer Unit. Renovation plans include developing a patient-centered environment for healing, to include:

  • 19 state-of-the-art patient rooms
  • Individual bathroom and shower facilities in each patient room
  • Comfortable sleeper sofas, so parents can spend overnights with their children
  • An expanded and updated playroom just for children with cancer
  • New nursing stations, allowing for closer proximity to children
