1st Floor - This floor will be the main entry point for patients and families, designed for easy access and comfort. The Emergency Department will feature its own dedicated entrance and close patient parking, ensuring immediate care is always within reach. Just steps from the front door, visitors will enter a soaring three-story atrium, with elevators less than 100 steps away for simple, stress-free navigation.
Also located on this level will be our Imaging Suite, providing quick access to essential diagnostics, and an outdoor dog park designed for interactions with our facility dog(s)—bringing joy and comfort to patients and families during their visit.
Together, these spaces will create a warm and welcoming first impression, setting the tone for compassionate, family-centered care the moment you walk through our doors.
2nd Floor2nd Floor - Featured on this floor will be our interventional platform that includes: operating rooms (ORs), post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), lab, sterile processing and our hybrid catheterization suite.
Our operating rooms in our new hospital will be, on average, 300 square feet larger than our current ORs.
Our pre-and post-operative space will have 30 bays that will enable more procedures to be completed during the day because of more recovery space. This will improve efficiency within the OR to help ensure cases will stay on schedule.
Currently, our interventional platform is spread over several levels; however, in our new hospital, all these services will be consolidated onto a single floor!
3rd Floor3rd Floor - This floor will serve as the central hub for families and visitors, offering key amenities such as our outdoor terrace with views of downtown St. Louis, a new chapel that reflects our Catholic roots, and an updated Ronald McDonald Family Room designed for rest and comfort. These spaces will be a place for respite, prayer, and rejuvenation—where families can step away, breathe deeply, and find moments of peace and strength during their child’s care journey.
The floor will also include our fullservice cafeteria and kitchen, pharmacy and conference rooms, along with our administration offices and physician’s lounge.
A very exciting addition to this floor will be a new bridge to Saint Louis University Hospital that will support collaboration and easy access for our academic partners.
4th & 5th Floors4th & 5th Floors - These two floors will be home to our new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), featuring 70 private rooms — each with a window — making it the only NICU in the state to provide natural light in every room. Transition rooms will also give families a private space to spend extended time with their baby before going home.
The 5th floor will also include the Orthwein Center for Infant and Child Nutrition (Milk Lab), where all human milk and formula for the hospital will be safely prepared and fortified for our tiniest patients.
Together, these spaces reflect our commitment to compassionate, familycentered care — providing advanced treatment in an environment designed for bonding, healing, and hope.
6th Floor6th Floor - This floor will support both outpatient and inpatient dialysis, expanding our capacity from 4 to 10 bays. Each semi-private bay will provide room for families to sit alongside their loved one — bringing comfort and connection to an often-lengthy treatment.
The floor will also feature our inpatient therapy services, including speech, occupational, and physical therapy, with dedicated spaces such as a therapy gym, kitchen and mat rooms to help patients reach their fullest potential.
The other half of the floor will house our 20 additional NICU beds, bringing our total number of NICU beds to 90, continuing our commitment to providing advanced, familycentered care for our smallest patients.
Together, these spaces will bring healing, hope and strength — supporting children through every step of their journey and ensuring families never face it alone.
7th Floor7th Floor - While this floor will be reserved for future growth and innovation when the new SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital opens, it represents one of the most forward-thinking investments in the entire facility.
Designed with the future in mind, this floor gives us the flexibility to expand and adapt as the needs of our patients and community evolve.
Critical infrastructure and mechanical systems (MEP) are already in place to minimize future disruption – especially for the NICU directly below – ensuring that any future development can happen seamlessly without impacting patient care.
By planning ahead, we are ensuring that our hospital will continue to grow, innovate and meet the ever-changing needs of children and families for generations to come. Because at Cardinal Glennon, every decision begins with what’s best for our patients and families.
8th Floor8th Floor - This floor will be home to our Hematology and Oncology programs, including our Bone Marrow Transplant Unit — providing some of the most advanced, life-saving care for children facing cancer and blood disorders.
It will also feature expanded space for our Child Life team, including an inpatient classroom, a dedicated music studio, and an immersive therapy room that help comfort, engage, and empower patients throughout treatment.
Our Residents will have dedicated space as well, with a conference room for educational lectures and a lounge that supports rest and collaboration.
Together, these services will help save lives, support healing, and ensure every child receives the compassionate, comprehensive care our community makes possible.
9th Floor - This floor will be home to our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), with 24 total beds—12 dedicated to each specialty. These units will provide highly specialized, 24/7 care for children with complex medical and heart conditions, supporting better outcomes through dedicated teams and family-centered care.
Respiratory Therapy will be located adjacent to the ICUs, allowing for rapid response to critically ill patients while continuing to support care throughout the hospital.
10th Floor - This floor will feature 24 additional beds equipped to provide ICU-level care, expanding our capacity to support patients with complex needs as pediatric care continues to evolve.
The 10th floor will also be home to Non-Invasive Cardiology services, including ECHO rooms and a Stress Lab, bringing essential diagnostics closer to the patients who need them.
TCU (transitional care unit) and stepdown rooms on this floor will include private bathrooms and larger layouts, allowing more than one parent to stay overnight and remain close during recovery.
These two floors will be home to our medical-surgical units, designed to support children at every stage of their care journey. The 11th floor will serve adolescent and school-aged patients, while the 12th floor will be dedicated to infants and toddlers, allowing care teams to tailor environments and care to each age group.
Both floors will feature spacious family lounges and beautiful views of the city, creating places for families to rest, connect and find moments of calm during their child’s stay.
The 12th floor will also include an expanded Epilepsy Monitoring Unit with six dedicated rooms, tripling our current capacity and allowing specialists to closely monitor and diagnose seizure activity.
